I broke my nose [Jul. 14th, 2009|11:36 pm]
And I have _NO_ idea how.

It was sore when I woke up one morning. And much, MUCh worse the next day.. purple at the bridge, very painful to do anything nose related. That lasted three days.

Today, I can actually touch it. And if I squeeze gently at the bridge, there's no pain, but quite a bit of crackling and odd sounds.

And I have NOT ONE CLUE how it happened. The wife swears she did not belt me in my sleep. I don't recall walking into anything solid, nor do I recall smacking my beak into the dresser next to the bed.

I'm _guessing_ I was trying to pull up the sheets and my hand slipped and I whonked myself.

This is odd. To say the least.

In the SCA....

Who totally lack the ability to socially interact...

Personal update [Jul. 14th, 2009|06:38 pm]
sorta medical-ish, state-of-life update. Cut for those who don't care.

Sorrow [Jul. 1st, 2009|09:01 pm]
I just found out Sam Maloof died. I'm partly a fan of his design work and vision in furniture, partly not a fan of it. But I am a HUGE fan of his dedication and hand-working of things that could be done with machine.

Many of my hand tools I learned to use because Sam did an article in a woodworking magazine or book, explaining how to use them.

He had vision, and the patience to make them work, even though wood is a very hard medium to express "vision" in a lot of the time. wood has a mind of it's own, is a living, breathing thing, and often doesn't play well with your plans.

heres to Sam. CHEERS! May you continue to inspire!

In which we focus on scaly snakes... [Jul. 1st, 2009|05:39 pm]
with no legs. If you don't like snakes, don't clicky de linkys!
I had been seeing more and more snakes lately, usually in the morning. So I've been paying attention more. Today, the 2 snakes I usually see weren't in their usual spots, sunning. So I was walking around, looking for them.. and the wood pile rustled. There were THREE on the woodpile, pretty as you please. So I got to snapping. This evening I realized they were in the folded carpet I use to shield the top of the wood from water, so I very gently lifted it back, and lo and behold.. at LEAST four in there. One took off before I could get the shot, but the three who remained were nice enough to behave. Also, got the "big guy" who seems a loner out front, getting ready to shed.

BTW.. if anyone wants these things for desktop wallpaper, let me know your resolution, and which picture you like, and I can crop/edit it so it's the right size.

Software experimentation [Jun. 30th, 2009|08:02 pm]
So, playing with Adobe Lightroom and RAW image files, I'm starting to like how much one can tweak a photo.

I think it punched this iris up just enough to make it pop, myself.

not _as_ good a day today.. [Jun. 29th, 2009|11:02 pm]
but it's all about learning constantly.
As always, fairly big photos, and content may be icky if you are bug-phobic.

On a better note, I got two shots of a green hummingbird, neither of which came out well, but I know when/where he comes by now, so I'll lay in wait, better prepared!
